Families Day 2001
..
Families day 2001 was held on Saturday 21st July.  It bucked a trend in several ways - firstly it didn't rain, but most importantly, the event was graced by a bigger static aircraft display than there had been for many years.   I was fortunate enough to attend the event with my camera and here follows a pictorial representation of the day...

Tucano T1  ZF203 of 1FTS,  RAF Linton on Ouse, arrived on Friday 20th at 16.29 using callsign 'LOP71'.  It departed on Monday 23rd at 11.02.
Also arriving on Friday 20th was Tornado F3  ZE160/TX of 11 Sqn, RAF Leeming, at 16.09, using callsign 'Javelin 25'.  It departed Monday 23rd at 10.12 under instruction not to make too much noise, due to complaints from residents when an example visited last year.
Some doubt surrounds the identity of this UH-60A of 357 Av Det, Shape,Chievres.  Using callsign 'Shape 4', a callsign usually associated with 87-24584, it had been operating from Northolt since its arrival on 19th July.  However, on close examination of the tail, serial 24583 is carried, but in a very faded state, and the tail appears to be in  a different colour than the rest of the aircraft. It departed at 15.50 on Sunday.
Harrier GR7  ZG859/91 was one of two from 20 Sqn, RAF Wittering, that arrived on 20th.  Arriving at 16.48, it used callsign 'Talent 1', whereas the other, GR7  ZD378/26 used 'Talent 2' and arrived at 14.31.  ZD378 did a display around 13.30 on the 21st whilst the other was part of the static display until mid afternoon when it positioned to south side pending their departure at 15.57 that day as 'Talent formation'.
Merlin HC3  ZJ123/G of 28 (AC) Sqn, RAF Benson, arrived at 10.45 on the Saturday morning as 'SHF315'.  It remained part of the static display until departing back to base at 17.23 that day.
Beech UC-12M  163836/7C of the US Navy arrived on the Saturday at 11.23 as 'Navy JM5R5' and featured in the static display until it departed at 17.23 that day.
Gazelle AH1  XZ314 of 8 Flt arrived on the Saturday morning at 11.05 using callsign 'AAC377'.  It departed the same day at 17.44.
Dominie T1  XS737/K of 55 Sqn, RAF Cranwell arrived on Friday 20th at 16.11, callsign 'CWL95'.  It performed a short local flight between 16.44 and 17.03 on the Saturday and finally departed on Monday 23rd at 08.11.
Based Twin Squirrel  ZH141 of 32[TR] Sqn formed part of the external static display, as did Ba146-CC2 ZE701.
Yak 52  LY-AFV arrived at 11.16 on families day and remained in the static display until its departure at 16.48 that evening.
Sea King HAR3A  ZH542 of 22 Sqn, RAF Wattisham, arrived at 15.00 and immediately performed a display which included winching a person into the helicopter.  Several low passes and banking movements, plus a 'bow'  were performed before it landed at 15.08.  The helicopter departed at 16.10.  Callsign used was 'SRG125'.
