The
next development in the executive jet field seems to be several single
engined jets that are under development or in production. progress
seems to be very slow, with several problems hindering development.

Orders
were being taken by Century Aerospace for this Williams-Rolls FJ44-1 powered
jet. It was planned to upgrade the engine eventually to the FJ44-2
when that engine had been proven. The first flight was due to take
place in July 1999 with first deliveries envisioned for the year 2001.
The aircraft was to be built in Alberquerque, New Mexico. As with
all jets in this class, delays to the program occurred and Century Aerospace
went into bankruptcy in 2001 due to lack of funding. |
.
A
scale version of the all-composite VA-10 Vantage first flew in November
1996, with the production aircraft planned to be stretched by up to 200mm.
Up to six persons can be carried over a range of up to 1550nm. The aircraft
is powered by a single Pratt & Whitney JT15D-5 engine and will be built
in Ames, Iowa. US Certification was planned for late 1999 with deliveries
commencing early 2000 bt this is now subject to a delay, with funding being
a problem. Over 150 orders were claimed as of October 1998 of the
1.8 million dollar aircraft, about half the cost of the Citationjet.
As of 2002 there had been little further progress in the project and in
January 2003 the project was under threat of bancruptcy with the company
in a court battle.

In
late 2003 'Eviation' bought the intellectual rights to the design for 441,000
dollars and a redesign took place, see the EV-20 under the twin jet section. http://www.visionaire.com |

Announced
in January 2003, this $800,000 single engined mini jet was planned to
fly
in 2004 with deliveries starting in 2006. Engine choice is the Williams
FJ33 turbofan. The all composite D-Jet will carry five people at
a speed of 315kt over a range of 1350nm and is aimed at the
owner-operator market. Diamond
Aircraft is an Austrian company that has been producing single engined
prop aircraft for some years. The aircraft actually first flew on
18th April 2007 with certification expected mid 2008. Production
is aimed at 100 jets a year
with R&D being undertaken in Vienna with production shared with
Diamond's
facility in Ontario, Canada. |

The
one million dollar 'Sport Jet' is powered by a single Williams FJ33-4A
turbofan giving a range of 1000nm at a speed of around 350kts.
The
five seat aircraft will be built in Guthrie, Oklahoma. First
flight took place on 11th May 2006, however, the aircraft later
crashed on take off during a test flight and this has caused delays
to the project. |

The
Victory jet made its first flight on July 6th 2007 after only 202 days
in development. Originally planned to use a Williams engine, it
is now powered by one P&WC 615 engine and the Victory is available
as a kit planes to be assembled in Epics factory. It features a
speed of 320kt, ceiling of 28000ft and seats up to 5 people. The
