Around
200 of the original model Gulfstream 4 were built before the upgraded SP
was introduced. The aircraft is longer than the G3 and is powered
by Rolls Royce Tay mk 611-8 turbofans. The construction number sequence
started at number 1000. The Gulf 4 can accommodate up to nineteen
passengers and first flew on 19th September 1985. It is 54 inches
longer than a Gulf 3 allowing for an extra window on each side. The
other obvious difference is the size of the engines. |

This
upgraded version of the Gulfstream 4 is still in production, with the construction
numbers following on from the standard model. It has a longer range and
improved internal cabin space compared to the basic model, which it superseded.
There are however no external differences. 200 of this version were
built before the model was superceded by the G400 |

Several
Gulfstream 4's have been built for special missions use, including marine
patrol variants for the air forces of Sweden and Japan (illustrated above).
Changes to the basic G4 include a cargo door and reduced number of windows.
Installation of the cargo door involves major structural changes that affect
sixty percent of the airframe and take a considerable time to complete |

An
increasing number of Gulfstream 5's are operated by the US Air Force as
VIP transports, designated the C-37A. Others are operated by the
US Army in a similar scheme to the Airforce versions, plus US Navy and
Coast Guard (pictured). |
