Beech
acquired all rights to the Mitsubishi Diamond in 1985 and produced it in
a slightly modified form as the 400, based on the Diamond II development,
fuselages of which were acquired as shells from Mitsubishi. Beech
then began producing the updated 400A alone in November 1990 at it's company
owned airfield in Wichita, Kansas In March 2007 the company was sold for 3.3bn
dollars to an investment group who renamed the company as
'Hawker-Beechcraft' and quickly announced plans for new models.

aircraft were built as basic models, with ten as Diamond 2's which were
later converted to Beech 400 standards. Powered by two P&WC JT15D-4
turbofans, the Diamond has a range of up to 1,484 miles and accommodates
up to eight passengers. It first flew on 29th August 1978 and was
manufactured by Mitsubishi in Japan but final assembly and outfitting were
undertaken in San Angelo, Texas. Construction numbers are somewhat
unusual, being prefixed by 'A' and suffixed by 'SA', i.e. number fifty
being c/n 'A050SA'. |

The
MU300 line was acquired from Mitsubishi and the aircraft was updated into
the Beech 400. Around 10 Mu300 frames were converted to 400 standard.
53 further aircraft were built using Japanese components. Construction
numbers are prefixed by 'RJ'. |

Currently
in production, this version followed on from the basic 400 but now using
US built components. Around 350 had been built as of late 2002.

passengers. It first flew on 22nd September 1989 and construction
numbers are prefixed by 'RK'. There is little external difference from
the 400 model. |

In
mid 2003, after around 360 had been built, the Beech 400A was
redesignated into the Hawker range as the Hawker
400XP, at the same time adding several improvements incuding the
ability to carry up to 9 passengers or additional fuel for a longer
range . Well over 500 of both models had been built
by mid 2007. |

Twenty
of this variant have been produced for the Japanese Self Defence
Force for use in a training role. Construction numbers are prefixed by
'TX'. |

This
Beechjet variant first flew on 5th July 1991. 180 aircraft have been delivered
to the US Air Force for training tanker and transport crews (designated
TTTS - Tanker Transport Training System). Construction numbers are
prefixed by 'TT'. |
